NGT endorses levying fine for dumping construction waste in Yamuna

Throw construction waste in river Yamuna and you be ready to pay fine Rs. 50,000

Delhi a Global City, and Smart City part of plan

Global Educational, Health, Entertainment in Capital City - country's 1st
Delhi is supposed to be the country's first Global City. They talk about making Delhi a truly global city with all amenities and facilities and compare it with global cities like London or San Francisco (ha ha). They also talk about Disneyland and Universal Studios. Barcelona in Spain has promised technological support. The government's focus is to build global educational and health institutes and entertainment facilities. DDA has an outline. The Smart City, zoned out of Dwarka, Rohini and Narela, will have world-class infrastructure, 24-hour power supply, complete wi-fi connectivity, will employ green technology, latest water conservation techniques like rain-harvesting and waste management techniques, and other facilities.

AND says 'Global Entertainment like in Disneyland? - now that's entertainment talk.' It is not that they can't achieve nearness to that but .. . But, in a nutshell, AND feels that priorities should be set right. Sensible City or Sensible Living seems more appropriate as we get down to think about it. Everything else falls in place around that. Quality of individual comes to mind foremost. Well, what can the government do about that? There, they have an alibi. "Go your way then, do it your way, give this antic the name or prefix Global, the expressway is open for your recklessness", says AND.

Universal Pavement Design - UTTIPEC Guidelines

Pavements are inaccessible, for especially the disabled
Uniform pavement design is sought. For both the visually impaired and the wheelchair bound, it is an impossible task to move around and get guided 'uninterrupted' and 'with logic and sense'. UTTIPEC guidelines are not followed universally because it is not mandatory to follow them. Isolated developments of facilities and mindless planning without incorporating disabled friendly design guidelines, if not principles create difficulties. Encroachments are also a problem. Universal Design is called for. Guidelines should be incorporated in the NBC (National Building Code) and PWD and CPWD manuals.
----------------
"... has spent crores trying to make the city's pavements pedestrian-friendly, but mindless planning has made them inaccessible to all, especially the disabled. A large number of pavements have tactile guiding strips for the visually impaired. Unfortunately, they can't rely on them as chances are that they would hit a pole or a tree. These strips are mainly used for beautification.
Similarly, it is impossible for a wheelchair-bound person to use the pavements as they are not uniform. ..."
"... They should be low in height and wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs. If infrastructure is disabled-friendly, it will automatically become pedestrian-friendly," ..."
"... the bigger problem is mindless planning. ..."
----------------
UTTIPEC is Unified Traffic And Transportation Infrastructure. (Planning & Engineering) Centre.
NCPEDP is National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People.

The scores were then validated by KPMG and affirmed by an eminent jury composed of India’s leading authorities on energy efficiency, safety, security, and productivity in buildings. ...
"... Honeywell launched the Honeywell Smart Building Score in India in June 2015, a first-of-its-kind global tool to measure building smartness. The tool was subsequently launched in the United States in October, and is scheduled to be launched in China in December and the Middle East in 2016.The score is determined by a building’s use of 15 technology asset groups that make a building green, safe, and productive based on the building systems’ overall capability, coverage of the facility, and uptime. ..."
